[well, they're in the middle of writing a text to the entire network asking where despair_xoxo_evil is, but garou comes through the archway and they look up, startled.
garou is in a little apartment! it's small, and kind of messy in the clothes are everywhere and stuff is all over the ground way, not in the trash way. there are posters on the walls - though they're fuzzy and out of focus - and a couch, with a tv in front of it.
when bass sees garou, their blob pixel body spikes out like a spiny from super mario, and they roll off the couch onto the floor.]
[once garou goes looking for the jade archway, it will appear before him. stepping through feels like stepping into a soothing landscape painting. the atmosphere goes grey, but rather than the monochrome of other areas, it's the mist of morning fog, still hanging low in the air. his feet touch down onto dirt and grass. he is standing in a quaint country garden. there are tall, dark green trees all around and rolling hills far away, but in the immediate vicinity is a flat, empty area with a few fenced in garden patches. the fenced in area in front of you looks to be a tidy herb and vegetable garden patch. there's a small shed towards the back of the garden, and gardening tools are scattered about.
in the distance he can see a pond and across the pond, far away, a small cottage with smoke billowing from the chimney. there are a few stone statues scattered about the garden, but after a moment, you notice that one of them in particular is waving.]
as he steps through the quartz arch, he will find himself standing in a traditional Japanese-style room - tatami mats on the floor, and sliding paper doors on every side. there are no windows, or even decorations on the walls. it's dim in here, lit only by low candles and shadows crawling out of every corner. It's very, very silent.
[when garou enters the archway he'll enter a small one-room apartment. there's a few posters on the wall but they're a little hard to make out. there's a clock on the wall by the door. there's also one by the bathroom door and one above a desk across the room. all three of them display different times. there isn't much in the way of furniture except for a small couch and a bed with a large pile of blankets and pillows formed into a person-sized cocoon. the kitchen is pretty sparse, though there's a whiteboard on the wall. it's split into two parts. there's a quote: Evolution can be an amazing vision quest of self-deception. the second half is a section just labeled NOTES and under it are a few items including:
□ Presents for exchange ● People did things for you, so don't forget to reward them
□ Spend more time with people ● They're not as bad as you think
□ Get more snacks ● People keep showing up so...maybe be a better host?
on the desk itself there's a pc. it's open to a web browser with several tabs, one of which seems to be playing some sort of rock music. there's a second monitor perched on a table in front of the couch, and leaning against the wall is a blue guitar. there also appears to be a small pile of clothing in one of the corners.
riff, meanwhile, is in the computer chair by the desk and turns around to glance over their shoulder at garou. they don't really have many facial features, but he may get the feeling they're raising an eyebrow. hello garou?]
[ same boring steel, same boring room. they look the same as they did at trial, but the extra arms have retreated for now, kneeling at their low table. there's a tray of tiny cupcakes on it? ]
[shale is in their garden as usual, sitting by a table, waiting to see if someone stops by and needs them. when garou comes through, they're watching the archway.]
when he walks in, it's to a hallway. immediately on his right is a tiny, tiny kitchen, mostly just pressed into an indent against the wall. there's a fridge, some cabinets, a microwave on top of the fridge, and a sink. to the left is what looks like a bathroom. and just past that is an open sliding door that leads into... a bedroom! there's a bed pushed up against the wall, and the same TV cabinet from before, with a bunch of game consoles jammed into it. a bookcase with a bunch of books and manga hangs out near the bed, a comfy chair sits next to that, and those same blurry, colorful posters litter any free space there is. there's a full wall, ceiling to floor window next to the bed that is mostly covered by a curtain. the sun peeks out from behind it.
bass is sitting on the floor in a mostly humanoid form, made of grey static, kind of just staring at the ceiling. today was a lot.]
He'll walk in, wary, like he expects to be attacked at any moment, even though... it's just Bass. But sometimes you have a crazy day and it activates your fight or flight mode and you can't turn it off.
[shale's archway is now a grove surrounded with tall, tall trees, whose canopies hang overhead, shrouding the place in a greenish-gray mist. a path leads towards the garden area, the gazebo, down the path is a very cozy looking cottage, made of stone and shaped with a steeple. colorful lanterns light up the path approaching the cottage, giving off a cozy glow.
the garden itself is quite different than it was before. there are a few separate patches - vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruit bushes, including an area of flowers and bushes protected by the canopy where glittering colorful butterflies flutter about. towards the back of the garden is an orchard of fruit-bearing trees. a hammock is strung between two blossoming trees. there is also a garden shed and a beetle habitat set up near the orchard.
the gazebo is next to a small pond, shaded by the canopy. lights also guide your way down the path to it. it is quite lovely, with a table meant for tea parties in the center of it, protected by a parasol, and a blanket spread out for picnics nearby. near the gazebo is a particularly tall tree, strung with lights from the branches, at the base of which is a small shrine with a crook and wreath symbol.
shale is waiting near the shrine, but when the archway opens, turns to look.]
[ He's openly looking around as he wanders in—the place looks nice!!—a little impressed at how it's all turned out given that it had been left in the hands of the people. ]
[he can come through! he actually has to text shale and get invited first but we can handwave that because he is always welcome.
the cottage is a very cozy space. it's old fashioned, with most things made of wood or handmade, but it seems like something sturdy that has stood the test of time. it is clean and tidy, and there are plants in here too; flowerpots on the windowsill, hardier plants stuck on top of cabinets and tables, and partitions made of greenery dividing up the rooms. it is lit by the gentle glow of candles, the fire in the heart, and the low greenish sunlight filtering through the shuttered windows.
the particular room he arrives in looks like an eating area. there's a simple but well-cared for round wooden table and seven mismatched, colorfully painted wooden chairs clustered around it, with seven place settings. (two additional chairs are in the corner near the hearth in case they come to be needed). a vase containing fresh cut lilies and painted with little butterflies and beetles sits in the middle of the table. in the corner, there's a small hearth fireplace giving off warmth, while a pot of something sits on the fire. it smells like something delicious is cooking. a shelf nearby is organized and set up with tea-making supplies. there is a doorway that leads into a well-appointed kitchen.
the walls are covered with shelves containing cute, handmade looking knick knacks and plateware. the plateware - cups, dishes, bowls, utensils, kettles - is all a mismatch of various cute colors and patterns, but no piece seems to go with any other piece. there are a lot of design elements that are floral or insect themed. one little shelf is stocked with wooden, painted figurines of an azure dragon curled around itself, a graceful little rose colored fox baring its teeth, a playful golden shiba inu, a mouse in a school uniform, a crow with its feathers puffed up, a cautious orange weasel, a lizard in a baseball cap, a cute little bluebird, a noble looking german shepherd, an egyptian-style falcon, and a rude looking little monkey. on the walls there are many hoops and frames that one would expect might contain things like embroidery or art projects. while some only depict various species of butterfly in embroidery or as a sketch, there are also some pictures depicting other pink-haired firbolgs here and there.]
[ He walks in, half expecting... not to. He's still getting his bearings after dying and then not actually being dead. Being cut off from the rest of the others but not this place is a little disorienting.
Like nothing's changed at all. ]
Yo.
[ He'd planned to see Caduceus earlier today, but after the little display... ]
[ without much warning, he'll fall flat on his face through the archway and arrive - ghostly and such.
It's still a very traditional-looking Japanese-style home, but it's much brighter in here now. The weather outside is stormy, rain breaks the surface of the koi pond and wind runs through the branches of the sakura tree, but in a way where it's cozy inside here, where the air smells like a storm passing by. It's lit mostly by low candles and shadow lanterns, and shoji doors have closed off the main room, but a few of them are cracked open to show that there are rooms beyond just this one, filled with actual things. The sword is still on the wall in here, restored to its place. The weather is nicer, still a bit cloudy in that way it is just after rain, but sunlight is starting to peek through.
Steel is out in the garden, throwing a bit of fish food to the koi. ]
[after trial, you can probably find him...in the medbay clover field, sitting in one of the chairs, doing that grandpa thing of being asleep and then waking with a start when someone comes in and pretending they aren't sleeping.]
