[when nogiku enters the archway, she finds herself in what looks like a city. actually she ends up in what looks like the center of a city, a large tower looming over her, several stories high and windows on the side. it's evening here, neon lights starting to flicker on. there are people here, no faces and wearing almost weirdly bright, neon colors walking past her. there's a hint of music playing from somewhere, something upbeat that she can't quite identify, and there are shops along the sidewalk, two streets veering off to the north. there's signs and posters and art that're blurry to her eyes, and over the music she'll occasionally hear the sound of people speaking. their words are muffled, however.
there are crosswalks on the ground, greyish white in color and seemingly petering out in different directions. but as she peers at the tall towering building, signage blinking in and out, she'll see a staircase to the right. at the top of those stairs is a blue door.
she can explore the city if she wants, or she can head for that blue door.]
The archway is right there, and she assumes it will take her to him. But... This is not at all what she expected to see tonight. So, you know, of course she's going to explore? Just a little walk, to see if she can identify the source of the music.]
[she can walk! the music seems to be coming from wherever, almost like a weird background music. as she ventures around, she'll see the extremely tall tower-esque building is home to a couple of different shops and restaurants. there are digital billboards advertising different brands, and some of the shops along the sidewalk have different music drifting out of the doors.
people still wander, seemingly not noticing her. cars pass her by on occasion. some shops she'll find she can't actually enter, but she can look inside from the doorway.
it's just...busy. the world continues to go on around her, not at all acknowledging her presence.]
[Being ignored by the masses... It's kind of neat, actually. She imagines the novelty would wear off pretty quickly if there was someone she wanted to talk to, but right now? It's neat.
Do the streets veering off to the north lead anywhere, or will she find that she can't actually head that way? She will head for the stairs soon, I swear.]
[...well, yeah they do actually. it's been a little time now, so while these streets aren't nearly as busy as the one she was on, they are filled in a bit. she'll find a few more shops. the street heading northwest will bring her to a place that's mostly filled with restaurants (curry and ramen specifically.) the street heading northeast is a little smaller, but seems to be home to a few clothing shops. lolita fashion and punk fashion in particular.
but, there are still nameless and faceless people here, even if the areas are a little darker and a little less clear. she might want to turn back since she can't go further just yet, it seems.]
Well, back to the beginning she goes. This time, she will make her way up the staircase and to the blue door. Is it unlocked? She knocks on it twice, just out of politeness, before trying to push it open.]
it's still an apartment. his new place is still an apartment, but now there's multiple rooms. there are doors for a bedroom and a bathroom, though peering into the bedroom itself there seems to be a large kind of jungle theme going on there with some fake greenery, a little pond, a cat tree, food bowls, etc. there’s another room, but…the door is soot-sprite sized. there is no other door just yet which means this door remains closed. there’s also a door for a coat closet, a bathroom, and a laundry room. to the left of the door is the kitchen with standard appliances.
in the main room itself there’s a large blue pull-out couch that’s been piled with a few blankets and pillows, likely where riff slept last night. the walls are framed with vinyl records, posters of bands, games, and things he might like, and the wall directly across from the entrance by the window and his desk is a chalkboard wall. there are a few things written on it, mostly lyrics or little doodles, but he’ll see one drawing with a phrase scrawled next to it: it’s always the darkest under the lighthouse. close by, there's we see you and elsewhere there's a few ocean waves drawn in different chalk with the words: feeling, deep inside your ocean, searching for the air to breathe, fear is nothing but an illusion, lead your own way and believe it. elsewhere, there's what looks like the crosswalk from outside, five different sections, and the words: don't let your head get to your heart
there’s a tv hooked up with a projector and with his game systems, and extra seating in the form of a couch. there’s also the desk with his computer and a few little knickknacks on it, including the golden shiba, the green elk and the pink fox on a shelf above the desk right in eyesight. there aren’t as many clocks, but there are a few things on the wall as mentioned, including the marine clown portrait and a few artsy pieces. there are also a few sound panels on the wall, his blue electric guitar on a stand and propped in the corner.
and riff himself is in the kitchen putting something in the fridge, but he looks up when he hears someone enter.]
Yeah, hence the onigiri. [it's small, easy, and one-handed without effort.] ...it's weird. We should be happy that we're catching at least one culprit per week, but there's too many other things wrong with the picture.
I said should, not that I agree with it. But you're right. It's not really fair to anybody, and especially when it's totally possible there's still people running around that got away with this. They might be hurting and we won't even know until it's too late.
No way to know, and no way to heal them unless we get really lucky with the gumball machine. [Which is, hm, bad.] Is that truly the only way to get our hands on something that could save those people...?
...I don't know. I think it's something we just have to keep looking into, see what other options might be available to us and figure out what to do with them from there. It can't be, but I don't know as much about it as I want to right now.
That would make the two of us... I suppose there's whatever was used to spare Percy the other week, too. But we don't know who was responsible for that, or what method they used.
...I think that it was likely a method we won't be able to replicate again, and that whoever used it was someone who wanted to do the right thing. We can't count on it, but we can be glad for it.
There's always a chance something new will come up instead. We just have to think and maybe the prism will listen.
Maybe. Though the Prism isn't always keen on listening to what we truly want. [...] But if that miracle was really a once in a lifetime deal, then... What's gonna happen if the refracted make it out of their execution alive?
I think it's been a pretty proven pattern so far, but...even patterns have anomalies. There may be a time the executioner doesn't win, but I don't think that'll happen at this point if things go the way they have been.
