[Well, if the lightbulb has been here as long as they have, then it's of no interest any further--instead, he wanders over to check out the sketchbook. Any doodles? Bad haiku?]
a bright and colorful world exists outside this door. from here, vax can see what seems to be a main hall. there are splashes of color - red, orange, yellow, blue, green, purple, gold and pink - all over the walls in searing hues, dripping like paint. there are curtains adorning the walls, bracketing three doors.
he knows instinctively that if he steps out into this world, he will never be able to come back to the white space. are you sure you want to leave?
the sketchbook is full of sketches! there are several pages of portraits of people who look familiar, but you can't quite place them. the weirdest thing about this book, though, is that the sketches seem to move a little, the longer you look.
... when he reaches the last five pages, though, he feels apprehensive. does he still want to look?
atsushi picks up the cat, and it meows, rubbing against his hand. you now feel happy. and yes, you can take the cat with you.]
[ it is unfuckingbelievably bright in that other room in comparison to the white. it almost makes vax rear back a little, though he holds his hand up to his eyes and squints.
if there's anything to know about vax'ildan though, it's that he's never been afraid of taking a step into something, no matter how dangerous it might be. he glances at the other three, makes a little noise, and then jerks his head towards the bright colored room.
that feeling - you'll never come back - rattles around in his chest. wouldn't he want to leave, anyway? something's not here. someone important. ]
No okay he doesn't do that. He lingers, puzzled, over the familiar figures, and he hesitates as he reaches the last few pages--that's when Vax speaks. Glancing up, Yasusada nods slowly, straightening up. Can he pick up the sketchbook and flip through the last pages as he walks towards the door?]
[It's a good thing Atsushi didn't go first because he definitely would have been like 'nah'. But with everyone else going, he will take the cat with him and hurry over to the door. Even if he is Unsure of going outside, he also doesn't want to be alone here, so even if the world of colors is New and Scary he'll make that step just to stay with the others.]
the first page is a sketch of a peaceful forest. the second page is a ¾ headshot of a boy with blonde hair. the third page is a sketch of familiar people all smiling in various poses; their eyes are scratched out. the fourth page is a very detailed sketch of a knife. and the fifth and final page is a sketch of a shattered phone.
yasusada now feels sad.
the cat chills in atsushi's arms!
as you're all standing here, you're hit with a question. do you want to leave? are you sure? it's so safe here. it's cold, and empty, but it's all you've ever known. it's too frightening to leave, right?
once the whole group is through, vax will realize very quickly it is fucking impossible to stealth through a room that is this colorful, but he sure will try. his footsteps are quiet as always, and he slows down just a little to glance over yasusada's shoulder at the sketchbook. ]
...C'mon. [ a little more urgently, encouraging, to the other three. ] Let's get out of here.
Well, Atsushi can have some emotional company--as he's hit with that wave of sadness, his steps slow, feet dragging. It's not a feeling he's unaccustomed to, though it's a little surprising to feel it now--but then, hasn't he spoken about how he's still learning? About what it means, to carry the weight of a heart?
It is safe in here--and perhaps if his most important people were with him, he'd take it into consideration. But they aren't, and Yasusada is a sword; he's not made to exist in "safe" places.
So out the door he goes, closing the sketchbook and holding it with him.]
[It's frightening. Atsushi's natural anxiety makes him hesitate, makes him focus on all the 'what ifs' and how anything could go wrong here. So many bad things could happen, it's so risky. Staying in a safe home- albeit an empty one- is better, isn't it? Even if the house isn't great, the known emptiness is better than the unknown risk, right?
But it isn't, not really. You can't grow if you don't experience scary things. So Atsushi hugs that cat to his chest and goes out that door after everyone else.]
[you now stand in the middle of a hall - and now that you're here, you can tell that this is a castle. it is completely empty. nobody has been here in years. you understand this.
the colors continue to drip from the walls, endlessly. you feel sort of disoriented, actually, as you walk through the door into this area. the colors are startling. there are pictures nailed to the walls as well, though they're blurry and impossible to see properly. these pictures look like they might be people, maybe? who knows. you get the sense that whoever they are, they're cowards.
each of these doors have your names written on them. those, you at least remember.
but before you continue, you must assess your emotional state.
yasusada: you are sad. you have increased defense, and decreased speed in battle. this emotion beats happy. atsushi: you are happy. you have extra luck, and your speed is increased in battle. however, your hit rate is decreased. this emotion beats angry. damien: you are angry. you have increased attack, and decreased defense in battle. this emotion beats sad. vax: you are sad. you have increased defense, and decreased speed in battle. this emotion beats happy.
what would you like to do now that you are in the castle?]
but alright, into the castle we go! vax looks to the other three for a moment, just to make sure they're all together, before moving forward through the hall. he glances briefly to the pictures, squinting a little to try and see them a little closer (cowards) and then pauses, reaching up to absently rub his hand against his chest. he's sad? he's sad.
...what else is new, though. he takes a deep breath, rolling his shoulders back, and shifts into a sneaky sneaky rogue position, making his way past the photos and moving to the doors. this one says: vax'ildan.
....
well, i mean, he's gonna try the doorknob. who talks about doing things with other people before doing them. ]
[ damien is angry because angry beats sad. this checks out and is not that notable!
he looks at those portraits very briefly, but they're so frustrating that he ends up looking away fast. cowards. but that's not surprising, everyone is like that.
he'll glance back to check on the other two as well. ]
[SAD POTATO IS SAD... sad potato looks at the door with his name on it like "huh that's weird" and then goes over to stand by Damien because he doesn't know how rp quests work.
He nods--then hesitates, lifting one hand to his chest.]
[Those cowards...but Atsushi's emotional state is better, and it makes him think 'I can't just call them cowards. They must have had their reasons.' Not that he actually knows why he thinks they're cowards. He's just automatically charitable.
Damien's voice gets his attention though.]
Ah- yes! I'm coming!
[And he hurries along from where he stopped to look at the blurry pictures, down to the end of the hallway.]
[as those of you who stopped look at the pictures a little more closely, you'll notice some very prominent colors among them. yellow, blue, green and pink.
the three doors have all of your names, just as a clarification, all vertically stacked. the names seem to be etched into the metal, jagged and horrible. your teeth itch when you see them.
vax tries the doorknob! it opens. wow, his immortal enemy seems to be nerfed, huh. he seems to be looking into a kitchen, but he'll have to go in further for a full description.]
[listen if you think i'm not going to force you through all of these doors you're wrong.
to answer your question though, they have no idea about anything in this castle, other than the fact that it is here now, and there's really no other place to go.
the kitchen is huge! it has several prep counters, like four ovens, six stoves, and three fridges. the floor is a nauseating mix of colors. like hotel carpet, but with neon colors, and made of tile. the walls are a soft white, at least, but they're completely covered with little notecards.
notably, though, is the creature sitting on one of the counters. or... floating. it is dark. made of shadow, dripping inky black to the floor below. the shape of it twists and curls in on itself, a little like the way corrupted video game models do, its limbs rotating slowly. there is no face.
it speaks, and the voice hurts and is reassuring to listen to all in one. like the voice of someone you miss dearly.]
