It's eerily silent, and dark. You feel a little like you're floating, not entirely connected to reality as you as you find yourself walking through a stone archway. Your bare feet feel the cool marble beneath you and shadows begin to peel back to reveal the tall structure before you.
It stretches far, stone blocks stacked in a pyramid sort of formation sticking out just enough that you can pull yourself up to climb. Above you, a starless sky appears with a crescent moon shining down. Below you, an endless abyss...is there a bottom to this pit? It's hard to say.
The door which you came through soon swings shut, hinges creaking loudly against the silence. At the top of the tower, you barely see a single platform with a door.
Look down. You seem to be underdressed for the occasion, don't you? Your pajamas are a bit silly to be wearing right now, but hopefully you're comfortable. You'll also find that you aren't alone...
A leopard, a falcon, a feline, and a draconian being stand together, huddled at the bottom of the tower. You feel that perhaps they're familiar to you, but it's hard to say when everyone appears to be a bipedal animal...including yourself. After all, you are one of the four of them. Do they know who you are? Does that matter to you?
[ Ty said tail for the leopard, so I'm running with it.
It is alarming to find yourself somewhere you never meant or expected to be. It is alarming to be wearing your pajamas somewhere foreign and without shoes. It is alarming to suddenly have a tail.
Roxana is cautious. She sees the others as animals, and she thinks, this might as well happen. With all the mentions of dreams with animals and all the random animals showing up, this isn't the strangest thing that could occur.
[Phew! Kashuu's automatically on guard because of course he is, after Yasusada vanished for an entire gotdam day and then got spat back out like a cake-covered mess. What he wears to bed doesn't offer a lot of protection - especially without the scarf and zori - even if the cover is decent, and he tucks his arms into his sleeves. ty also said cat ears so i'm running with those, nice.
Anyway he's also kind of cautious as he peers at this... weird fckin collection of animals here HELLO, and then looks up and up toward the tower. But then the leopard speaks, and Kashuu's blinking--]
—Eh? Roxana? S'that you? [Wait a second--] —What the hell happened?!
[To her specifically and not to him who is a completely normal human-shaped creature with cat ears at the moment, obviously.]
[ Malik recognizes both of their voices, but doesn't recognize either of them. Hello? What is going on? He's apprehensive, not really sure what to make of whatever the fuck is going on here, but he knows that he's a little cold, and looks down to see his jammies. (i do not want to hear judgement about my sinful ships or we'll be here for 200 years while i try to find an image).
He sighs. Except! That's nothing compared to seeing that his hands are no longer quite human, curling into scaled digits with dark talons at the end. Are there feathers on his arms too? Probably. His sigh turns into an agitated groan HE HATES THIS ALREADY. ]
[ So like, Estinien tends to just kind of tackle things head on, right. So when the archway appeared, he was like 'fine' and walked into it.
This was not what he signed up for.
His head feels heavy with the double pair of horns that stick out from it and he can only frown. What in the name of the Fury... He looks around himself and the other three, um, beastmen around him, except said beastmen have the voices of familiar people. The feline pretty much affirms for him that it isn't just his imagination.
Just a dragon in pajamas (except in black), it's fine...? Except he instinctively reaches for the lance that should always be slung over his back, only to find thin air. He didn't notice it immediately, distracted by the other new addition he got, but immediately scowls instead, a low growl in his throat. ]
For Fury's sake -- [ As he reaches up to touch what's on his head. What is this. It doesn't seem to be something that'll come off. ]
[Roxana and Estinien enter the curtained booth. As the door closes behind them, the two of them get the sense that Kashuu and Malik are no longer around. It’s just the two of them.
As they have a seat on the bench, they’ll find two ropes hanging above their heads. The screened window is on their right now, and there’s a faint light shining through it. A new voice appears, unidentifiable but a bit jovial in its approach.]
”Haha…welcome to the confessional. This is the land of nightmares, and you are the ones who have been chosen. Lucky you! You’ll die soon…but before we get to that, perhaps you’ll be able to convince me of your life’s worth?”
[ they still out here being furries. hate it here.
she looks to estinien, up to the rope, then at the screened window. the question is also loaded as fuck and very funny because of certain reasons for roxana, too. ]
You know. This usually doesn't happen. Usually people scream and beg for a second chance? So the voice, like, pauses for a moment before it kind of goes tsktsktsk at them.]
"Irrelevant! In order to determine your value, I'll ask you a couple of questions."

"Question one. Does the end justify the means? Pull the rope for your answer."
[One rope is labeled yes, and the other is labeled no.]
I'm so sorry Ty. This is just how it is, apparently. The voice got Bitch Squad and has to deal with this. At least this next question is far more easy for him to quantify. Sure, if he overthought about it and got philosophical, technically no, there is a limit to how far the 'means' can go...
[Kashuu and Malik exit through the stone door. A bright light washes over them, and they feel a strange sensation of falling…a bolt of fear, panic and guilt races through them.
They jolt awake in the Metallic apartment in their beds. Sweat soaks their skin, their clothes and a shiver runs down their spines. The animal features are gone now. They’re back to looking like themselves, and their items are within reach.
They seem to realize that they’ve both awoken due to the insistent alarm that continues to ring, reminding them of today’s Murder Mystery taking place in the Meeting Hall.
Take a moment to regain your bearings. Then set forth for what you would like to do.]
[ Malik sits bolt up, sweaty and shaky. Just another nightmare...?
He looks to Kashuu's side of the room. He waits, like he'll hear something through the alarm - something normal. He writes their little adventure off as something he just dreamt up, as weird as it was, and gets up to start his normal routine. ]
I'm going to the bathroom first.
[ KING OF THE BATHROOM BABY but, no, it's the least he can do so they don't have to argue about who's doing their beauty routine where. ]
[NIGHTMARES yeehaw... He's probably been having a lot of those this week anyway, so hey, what's one more!! Though it's kind of unusual for them to both bolt up like that, isn't it? He can't remember waking up like that before...
--Ah. But that's right. The alarm's going off and Kashuu nervously finger-combs through his hair before shaking his head, like he might feel a little more settled that way.]
...'Kay. Um - I'm gonna go find Roxana.
[Malik can go get unstinky in the bathroom first... Kashuu keeps enough things in their closet that he's probably got an extra towel lying here anyway, so he can at least wipe the sweat away before he heads out to the girl's bedroom door to knock on it.]
Anyway, very glad Malik's just like "psh, fuck dreams" and is carrying on with his life. The alarm will go quiet for a bit, but the notification is still there. They have one hour before they have to head for the meeting hall.
Nothing about the apartment seems too off at first. Kashuu will be able to wander through the apartment to check on the other bedroom. He knocks, but strangely there's no reply. If he thinks to check the room, it appears that the bed is unmade, almost as if someone ran out of the room earlier. The room itself is empty of all people though....investigate?
Malik, meanwhile, is king of the bathroom. Proud of him. When he enters however, he'll find that the bathroom light doesn't seem to work. Everything else is fine (running water, etc.) but the light refuses to work.
He'll feel his hands begin to itch though, and when he looks down he'll see what appears to be...talons?
Blink, and they're gone again. The itching lingers though.
[ Well you know what! He doesn't need to shower in the dark. It's fine. That's just a little too inconvenient for him, so he quickly splashes himself with some water and calls it good. ]
Lights out in the bathroom.
[ Calling in whatever direction Kashuu is in-- again. It's fine. He absentmindedly scratches at his hand. He takes advantage of his roomie being gone to get dressed for the day. He hesitates, but-- yeah, he slides the Millennium Rod through his belt. Just in case. ]
[Malik feels the world drop out beneath him. He finds himself falling, falling, falling through darkness, jagged stones digging into his skin as he tumbles down into a pitch black abyss. He manages to land on his feet, but his head hits hard against a cornerstone. Blood begins to seep into his eyes.
Upon landing, he still won't be able to see where he is. It's disorienting, and the underground is so uncomfortably warm. He'll hear the sound of the wind whistling in this tunnel coming from his right. However, there seems to be a very, very slight sliver of light coming from his left.
[ He gets up slowly, his body aching even more now, thanks, weird dream reality place. Everything hurts. He tries to wipe the blood from his eyes but he keeps bleeding, so he settles for trying to stymie the flow with the heel of his hand-- just enough so he can see, maybe. Barely.
[That works. Barely. The blood is still a bit steady but it stops him from being blinded by it at least. As he begins to walk, he'll find himself beginning to stumble occasionally. It's dark, and there's something in his path. The wind grows quieter and therefore the tunnel is silent. Sand sifts occasionally. Something smooth brushes past Malik's leg every now and again, but the light is straight ahead.
Will he continue onward? Or will he stop to try and figure out what the hell is happening in this tunnel?]
[The light is a golden glow, barely visible through the cracks. The sand seems to be a little harder to wade through now, coming up to his calves and deterring his progress. He may have to dig his face out, course gritty grains embedding themselves in his clothes, in his shoes, and falling from the ceiling into his eyes.
The tunnel is growing smaller. Soon he will have to crawl on his hands and knees.
[Malik disappears, and Kashuu finds himself alone in this booth. The voice returns again.]
"Peculiar..."
[It doesn't really expand on that though, and Kashuu soon feels the booth shake, the walls closing in. They crush down around him, catching his arm, catching his leg, enough pressure that when he moves he'll feel a bone snap.
Before he can be completely crushed, however, everything shudders to a stop? The walls tremble, wobbling like they might just collapse on him before the room opens outwardly. The walls land...on a stage. As he peers out into the darkness, he'll see several glowing lights, though there are no discernible figures. The lights flicker on and off, some waving and some staying still as the invisible crowd cheers him on.
Perhaps he should take a bow? Or maybe he'd like to do something else.]
[GODDAMMIT MALIK of course Kashuu panics for a second about him disappearing because that's still one of his water bottles that he's responsible for?? But then the voice is talking again--]
Wha—?!
[And the walls sure do keep closing in, which is fine, because he'd chosen to save their lost versus his freedom. The humerus in his wielding arm snaps, and he chokes out an unpleasant sound, but reflexively tries to press back anyway. (im also taking my 8 and giving him a fractured leg bone too no one can stop me) Is his death what will help the lost? He's not particularly a fan of the idea, but if it's for them, for him...
--Ah.
This is familiar, though. Kashuu stumbles a little onto the stage, peering out into the audience. Though he tries to see if there's anyone familiar out there, he knows there's no point - you can never see faces from the stage, after all.]
--Hello...
[Is he here to perform? Can he really bring a smile to anyone like this? He hesitantly raises a hand like he's greeting this faceless audience, waiting to gauge for a reaction.]
[You stupid fuck I did not mean for you to break two of his bones but it's fine. Kashuu's wielding arm snaps and his leg is fractured, making it a little hard for him to stand. A faint golden sign twinkles above him, and when he raises a hand he'll see the lights respond. Yes! They are here for a show!
But before Kashuu can perform, he'll hear a woman's voice from overhead.]
"Good evening. Welcome to the Golden Playhouse. ...have you heard about this scary rumor? They say, if you fall in a dream and don't wake up before you land...you die in real life. Tonight's story is "Akakihana chirimagou", a tale of a lonely, soul seeking love. Our hero is Kashuu Kiyomitsu. He is a vain, arrogant yet dependable man with a good heart. Oh. But he isn't a man at all, is he? Simply a tool to be used and discarded after use.
But one day, we begin to see him have terrifying visions. Will he be able to win back his adoring fans? His outcome...depends on you, viewers."
[And then the audience waits. The anticipation is palpable, and the shadowed crowd waits with baited breath to see what this idol can do. If he's worthy of their attention. If he's meant to be loved and adored at all.]
This is fine!! He listens to the voice call out from above, listens to the words that it has to say. If you fall in a dream and don't wake up before you land, huh... Hah. What a joke. He hates this, all of it, the honesty in this woman's words. One hand comes to rest over his chest, where this stupid, awful heart beats away.
He can feel it - the weight of this audience's silent anticipation. Judgment from so many unseen eyes. He wants to do well, he wants to be loved, he wants to wake up from this awful nightmare and hold Yasusada's hand and tell Itsuki how important he is and speak his unspoken words before he can't anymore. You'd think that after five hundred years and so many losses, he'd know better by now.
Ignoring the pain of aki cheating and giving him more damage than he deserved, he takes a step forward and moves his arms open in a dramatic, sweeping gesture toward the audience, like he would take them all into his arms if he could.]
—A body and eight sufferings! Tonight, for you and only you, I'll give you this human heart—! So please... Treat me nicely.
[You ever hear a little sword sing his heart out about how lonely he is and how terrible and empty death is and how much he misses the people who leave him behind?? That's what's happening now for this audience. Not even broken bones can stop him from acting out his feelings on stage.]
[You all blink your eyes awake slowly, painfully, uncertainly. You’re disoriented and it’s hard to say precisely where you are, but the only thing you’re incredibly sure of is this time you’re alive and awake.
The injuries you’ve obtained throughout your nightmares have manifested here, haunting your visions and your memories. Roxana and Estinien are in their jammies, both sporting cutesy costume versions of their animal parts. Malik may smell like fish and be covered in sand. Kashuu's clothes are slightly wet and smell like rain.
For a little while, you may find yourself struggling to determine what is and isn’t real. Nightmares are formed from your subconscious, aren’t they? Those fears may linger for a long time after this.
It seems as though you’ve been rewarded for your efforts though…
- A pair of gloves that turns into a shiny black gumball. When chewed, the user’s dexterity increases for 24 hours. They may be able to perform feats such as extremely high jumps, scaling the sides of buildings, one spineshatter dive, one precise stab with a blade, etc.
- A silver bell that turns into a shiny black gumball. When chewed, the user will receive a bell that can be rang in the vicinity of one person. They will be forced to confess a deep, dark secret they’ve been keeping for some time.
- A stuffed sheep that turns into a shiny black gumball. When chewed, the user will be able to summon a sheep big enough to ride. It can provide three attacks of medium damage to a foe.
- Two small pen lights, one red and one blue, turn into a conjoined pair of shiny black gumballs. When split apart and chewed, the users will receive a blacklight to be used on two items and a flashlight to shed light on one important piece of evidence. You get the sense that this is a prize meant for a mirrored soul.
- A black, cloth face mask. It appears to be a fashionable item, despite being incredibly plain. There are no other attributes to it.
Once you’ve collected your prizes, you’re free to carry on living in the waking world once more.]

END CREDITS
