That does sound hard. Especially if you're trying to understand someone who isn't really real.

Right? But you gotta make them real on the stage. The audience can tell when you're getting your character or when you don't. So it's really important, but it's one of the hardest skills for me.

[saturations]

So what do you do to get better at it?

[9mon]

It's... hmm... You try thinking about the character in different ways like... "Why did they do this" and "why would I do something like this".

[saturations]

That's pretty smart. It's a good way to get inside someone's head, trying to picture yourself in that situation.

[9mon]

Juza's amazing at it. When you see him on stage it's like he is the character.

[saturations]

I bet you're pretty good, too.

[9mon]

I'd like to get that good one day!

[saturations]

[a rumble of laughter.]

Have you ever asked him to teach you?

[...they glance at their little cottage. smoke is pouring from the chimney; it looks cozy inside. but they shake their head.]

No, I'll probably just make it with color. Unless it's tea or food you want; that I like to make the old fashioned way. What were you thinking?

[this boy has very few thoughts.

Um... My script for Love out of Left Field? Is that possible?

...I've never read it, so I don't know how well I could make it. Maybe if you act it out for me?

[And so he will perform, miming all of the character's actions and doing his best to play all the roles.

It's a little silly because he's standing in specific places for each character, to clearly indicate who he's talking to and who he is at the moment.

His acting isn't terrible, but it's a little bit stiff, especially for any role that isn't Akiyama.]

[shale watches politely. is he performing the entire play? how long is it? does kumon know all the lines? i'm so curious now]

[9mon]

[Kumon knows all the lines! He does the entire play. It's very hard to time the jokes when he's playing all the characters, but he's trying hard.

This is like an hour or something irl. This is a shorter play, but they get longer from here.]

[this is amazing. i'm picturing shale just sitting here politely watching for an entire hour while kumon acts out a ten person play by himself. they definitely do sit politely and appear entertained.

when the play is over, they gently clap their stone hands together.]

Wow, that was great. The only question I have about it is, what's baseball?

[wow.]

[Gaaaaasp!]

It's a sport! It's one of the best sports ever- [And then he takes another 20 minutes to explain what baseball is.]

[shale listens patiently for all twenty minutes.]

That really does help me understand the play better, yeah. Okay, I can probably try to get you your script.
