[as soon as she walks off with the intention of finding it, it will appear before her. stepping through the jade arch feels like stepping into a soothing landscape painting. the atmosphere goes grey, but rather than the monochrome of other areas, it's the mist of morning fog, still hanging low in the air. her feet touch down onto dirt and grass. she is standing in a quaint country garden. there are tall, dark green trees all around and rolling hills far away, but in the immediate vicinity is a flat, empty area with a few fenced in garden patches. the fenced in area in front of you looks to be a tidy herb and vegetable garden patch. there's a small shed towards the back of the garden, and gardening tools are scattered about.
in the distance you can see a pond and across the pond, far away, a small cottage with smoke billowing from the chimney. there are a few stone statues scattered about the garden, but after a moment, you notice that one of them in particular is waving to you.]
Hello there! Sorry about that. Can't really get the hang of these phone things.
[ooh, pretty! jiuqing surveys her surroundings - particularly the herb garden (anything identifiable to a chinese doctor who's extensively trained in herbal medicine?) - with undisguised interest, but after spotting the motion of a statue's arm waving out of the corner of her eye, she waves back and heads over.]
It's alright. It's taking some time for me to get used to them, too. The screens are so small, and it's strange to simply hit a button instead of writing, but the speed with which messages can be sent is truly convenient.
[actually, yes. she will probably recognize them. i'm not going to name every herb but some are medicinal, some useful for making tea, and some good for cooking. many of them are probably unfamiliar but some would look familiar to a chinese doctor.]
Just seems like there would be other ways to message someone that might work better, but I guess you'd run into problems there, too.
Really? That would be great! [i keep fORGETTING SHE HAS A BRUISE ON THE SIDE OF HER FACE but it's there.] Some of us are a little reckless, so having things I could use to treat people if I needed to would make me feel a little better about it all.
It doesn't sit right with me, having people running around hurt. I've been sort of fiddling with an idea, but in the meantime, I can give you something to bring back.
[hmm. they consider something.]
The way things are going, you probably need to do a little something for me first before I send you back out there with more of my color. I'd give it to you for free, but it'll probably go about as well as the cleanup we did last night went.
[a rumbling laugh comes from the general area of the statue.]
I'll give you two options. First, you can do an hour of work in the garden. Second, you can sit and have a cup of tea with me and tell me a little about yourself.
The second one is a little nicer, but it's good to have choices.
[they will wander over towards the cottage. there's a little table and chairs with a flower pot on the table set up outside. the cottage has large open windows, but for whatever reason she can't see in. they go to open the door and it's the same; she can't seem to see inside.]
anyway, they come back after a few minutes, carrying a tray with two mismatched cups. one of them has a green curlicue pattern and one has a floral pattern but is chipped. the tray also has a small, worn teapot and some sugar and cream.]
You have a sweet tooth or do you prefer more bitter flavors?
Well... I'm from a country called Daxing. I don't imagine you've heard of it; no one else I've spoken to has, but likewise, I've never heard of their countries, either.
[she takes another sip of the tea, then continues to hold onto the cup, letting it warm her hands.]
I'm a doctor. Practicing medicine is how I've provided for myself, but it's also how I've protected myself and people that I care about. I've been in several situations in the past that were dangerous, but having the proper medicines or tools on hands have allowed me to save someone. So to have come to a place like this so unexpectedly, and to be without most of my supplies... it's left me a little ill at ease.
Especially since some members of the group are a little...
[her voice trails off. she tilts her head to one side.]
...reckless?
I'd like to not have to make use of my skills, but I want to be prepared in case they become necessary.
...some of them, yes. But others were people I'd never met before.
I learned medicine to protect myself and my mother, but it goes beyond that now. I'm a doctor. I find it difficult to turn away from someone who needs help, regardless of how I personally feel about them.

[hmm.]
Are you the one who tends to the garden here? It's lovely.
no subject
Thanks. I do tend to it. [and since he remembers what she was asking yesterday] If you need medicine, I can help you out a little.

[they mix a couple herbs and leaves in a pot of water looks like very hot water.]
Trying out a new blend. Good to have a second opinion.

[the tea is steeping pretty fast in the pot. they pour it after only a minute or so, offering her the cup that isn't chipped.]

[she takes the cup of tea and brings it up, breathing in the scent before taking a small sip.]
...mm. And it tastes very nice, as well. You're skilled at this; I'm impressed.

[but now that they have their tea.]
Tell me about yourself. Where you're from. What makes you so determined to have medicine.

The people you've saved... are they the same as the people you care about, the ones you wanted to protect?

[they seem to empathize with this feeling.]
But there are more ways to accomplish that than the ones you already know. It's good you want to help, but you're pushing yourself pretty hard.

[a beat.]
I've actually been much less busy here than I ever was in Daxing...?
