[he steps through the archway and finds himself in a small apartment. it's one room with a bathroom, though the room itself doesn't appear entirely lived in. there are a few posters on the wall, but they are hard to make out and it seems that there is a clock on the wall by the door. there's a small couch along with a bed piled with blankets. the kitchen exists, but it seems empty of anything of note except for one whiteboard that reads: If you seek someone to love, think of what it means to give up.
the most important thing is that there's a computer desk agains the wall with a pc on it, and probably what looks like the back of riff's head looking at the screen and scrolling through something. but ryunosuke enters the room and he's not exactly the most stealthy person, probably, so they pause and turn their head to stare at him with their glowing yellow eyes. they don't speak first and seem to be waiting for him to speak instead.]
[ it feels a little intrusive to just suddenly be in someone's room like this, but here he is, eyes quickly flicking around the various furnishings before landing on... the giant phone screen. he doesn't know what a computer is.
he straightens up a little when he meets riff's spoopy eyes. ]
[this is also a small apartment, except it seems a little more messy than the other one he might've seen in another archway. it's small, a bit cramped. there are clothes all over the floor, scattered like someone just tossed their socks and sweaters on the ground instead of folding them and putting them away properly. there's a small attached kitchen, a couch, and a big tv, with a couple of consoles and things next to it.
on the walls are a bunch of blurry posters. can't quite make out what they say.
and on the back of the couch is a pixelated blob, curled up, seemingly asleep.]
[ greetings, blob-kun. he steps carefully past the mess, apparently used to it because he also just tosses his things every which way. it looks pretty cozy in here. ]
as he steps through the quartz arch, hhe will find himself standing in a traditional Japanese-style room - tatami mats on the floor, and sliding paper doors on every side. there are no windows, or even decorations on the walls. it's dim in here, lit only by low candles and shadows crawling out of every corner. it's very, very silent.
[as soon as he looks with the intention of finding the jade archway, it will appear before him. stepping through the jade arch feels like stepping into a soothing landscape painting. the atmosphere goes grey, but rather than the monochrome of other areas, it's the mist of morning fog, still hanging low in the air. his feet touch down onto dirt and grass. he is standing in a quaint country garden. there are tall, dark green trees all around and rolling hills far away, but in the immediate vicinity is a flat, empty area with a few fenced in garden patches. the fenced in area in front of him looks to be a tidy herb and vegetable garden patch. there's a small shed towards the back of the garden, and gardening tools are scattered about.
in the distance he can see a pond and across the pond, far away, a small cottage with smoke billowing from the chimney. there are a few stone statues scattered about the garden, but after a moment, he will notice that one of them in particular is waving.]
[ oh, it's nice here. it's an adjustment from all the dingy shades they've seen lately, and he's staring about for a while before he spots shale and approaches, waving in return. ]
It's an improvement from the archways we've had so far.
[come into my arms, nu. ryunosuke whooshes to shale's new cottage.
the cottage is a very cozy space. it's old fashioned, with most things made of wood or handmade, but it seems like something sturdy that has stood the test of time. it is clean and tidy, and there are plants in here too; flowerpots on the windowsill, hardier plants stuck on top of cabinets and tables, and partitions made of greenery dividing up the rooms. it is lit by the gentle glow of candles, the fire in the heart, and the low greenish sunlight filtering through the shuttered windows.
the particular room buzen arrives in looks like an eating area. there's a simple but well-cared for round wooden table and seven mismatched, colorfully painted wooden chairs clustered around it, with seven place settings. (two additional chairs are in the corner near the hearth in case they come to be needed). a vase containing fresh cut lilies and painted with little butterflies and beetles sits in the middle of the table. in the corner, there's a small hearth fireplace giving off warmth, while a pot of something sits on the fire. it smells like something delicious is cooking. a shelf nearby is organized and set up with tea-making supplies. there is a doorway that leads into a well-appointed kitchen.
the walls are covered with shelves containing cute, handmade looking knick knacks and plateware. the plateware - cups, dishes, bowls, utensils, kettles - is all a mismatch of various cute colors and patterns, but no piece seems to go with any other piece. there are a lot of design elements that are floral or insect themed. one little shelf is stocked with wooden, painted figurines of an azure dragon curled around itself, a graceful little rose colored fox baring its teeth, a playful golden shiba inu, a mouse in a school uniform, a crow with its feathers puffed up, a cautious orange weasel, a lizard in a baseball cap, a cute little bluebird, a noble looking german shepherd, an egyptian-style falcon, and a rude looking little monkey. on the walls there are many hoops and frames that one would expect might contain things like embroidery or art projects. while some only depict various species of butterfly in embroidery or as a sketch, there are also some pictures depicting other pink-haired firbolgs here and there.]
[ flies into siz's embrace as ryunosuke actually manages to land on two feet this time, wobbly as he may be. mostly because it looks very... different from before. a little fancier, less dusty. still eclectic though, in a patchwork way. ]
Hello again, Mr Shale.
[ it's a nice looking place, though he's going to take a slightly nervous peek out a window to peek at the sky. that said, the major change of note is shale himself. a firbolg... he's still so tall... ]
...This is the first time I've gotten to meet you like this, isn't it? I only got a little glimpse before. [ between the sunhat and glimpsing the living, he's not surprised, but it's nice to actually see the change face-to-face. ]
[cries i hope this isn't too late for you i want to tag ryunosuke!!!
he gets sucked through, as usual!
when you enter, there's a park. it's clearly in the middle of a fast moving city, the tall buildings with neon signs flashing in the distance. the placement of this apartment doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but there's a tall building right in the middle of a colorful assortment of flowers lining the pathway up to it. the door is bright yellow, and the area itself is constantly at dawn, the sun rising over the tops of the skyscrapers.
when you walk in, it's an apartment still, but it's much bigger, now. there's a nicely sized living room, with a seating area built into the floor. there are various pillows and cushions all over this seating area, making it super cozy. in front of this area is a large tv cabinet, with a big tv, and several game consoles. a karaoke machine sits on the floor next to the cabinet. the walls are painted like a sunrise between the floor-length windows that show off a stunning view of the city around them, and the various posters and framed pictures of cute pokemon and various manga or anime protagonists. against one of the walls is a large aquarium decorated like a sunken pirate ship, with one huge goldfish in it.
there's a little kitchen off to the side, with a toaster oven and microwave, as cramped as ever. a bathroom also exists. there's also a loft, but you can't see what's up there unless you ask. you can probably hear the various arcade noises going on up there, though.
bass is sitting on his couch, watching some sort of anime. probably jjk because i think i'm funny.]
i'm glad they gave him a bathroom. ryunosuke peeks inside, taking a minute to check this ridiculously vibrant apartment out. the pokemon and decor are cute but he's an old man and doesn't know what any of this is; eventually he comes over to check out this weeb nonsense. ]
ryunosuke really is going through it, getting sucked through portals like this.
luckily he bypasses the city, but he may get the sense that behind him there's a bustling crosswalk, people in bright neon colors and faceless appearances going about their daily lives.
inside, it's still an apartment. his new place is still an apartment, but now there's multiple rooms. there are doors for a bedroom and a bathroom, though peering into the bedroom itself there seems to be a large kind of jungle theme going on there with some fake greenery, a little pond, a cat tree, food bowls, etc. there’s another room, but…the door is soot-sprite sized. there is no other door just yet which means this door remains closed. there’s also a door for a coat closet, a bathroom, and a laundry room. to the left of the door is the kitchen with standard appliances.
in the main room itself there’s a large blue pull-out couch that’s been piled with a few blankets and pillows, likely where riff slept last night. the walls are framed with vinyl records, posters of bands, games, and things he might like, and the wall directly across from the entrance by the window and his desk is a chalkboard wall. there are a few things written on it, mostly lyrics or little doodles, but he’ll see one drawing with a phrase scrawled next to it: it’s always the darkest under the lighthouse. close by, there's we see you and elsewhere there's a few ocean waves drawn in different chalk with the words: feeling, deep inside your ocean, searching for the air to breathe, fear is nothing but an illusion, lead your own way and believe it. elsewhere, there's what looks like the crosswalk from outside, five different sections, and the words: don't let your head get to your heart
there’s a tv hooked up with a projector and with his game systems, and extra seating in the form of a couch. there’s also the desk with his computer and a few little knickknacks on it, including the golden shiba, the green elk and the pink fox on a shelf above the desk right in eyesight. there aren’t as many clocks, but there are a few things on the wall as mentioned, including the marine clown portrait and a few artsy pieces. there are also a few sound panels on the wall, his blue electric guitar on a stand and propped in the corner.
riff, meanwhile, is sitting on the floor playing with what looks a lot like a lisa frank tiger cub.]
anyway, riff's place has been gradually improving beyond one messy apartment room, which is nice to see. he lands on the cat couch with a little oof before he blinks over at riff. and riff's tiger. ]
...You got a new friend.
[ he's slightly wary of lisa frank cats but this one looks cute. also he's ignoring the clowns, for riff's sake. ]
[ hello. he'll fall through the arch way as always, ghostly as can be, but he can see that it's still a very traditional-looking Japanese-style home though it's much brighter in here now. The weather outside is stormy, rain breaks the surface of the koi pond and wind runs through the branches of the sakura tree, but in a way where it's cozy inside here, where the air smells like a storm passing by. It's lit mostly by low candles and shadow lanterns, and shoji doors have closed off the main room, but a few of them are cracked open to show that there are rooms beyond just this one that are filled with actual things. The sword is still on the wall in here, restored to its place.
Steel is sitting at her low table with a cup of tea, watching the weather outside. ]
[ryunosuke falls through the archway and bounces softly on the cat couch. riff is standing at his chalkboard wall, seemingly looking it over and finishing up a few drawings. there's a box of chalk at his feet. outside the window, it's raining in shibuya.
tora is asleep on the couch, and riff looks over his shoulder to grin at ryunosuke slightly.]
