Today, regardless of wherever Emet-Selch is, he will soon receive a text message from Bass.

hey!! come thru!!

Emet-Selch doesn't really have time to question what they mean by this, because immediately a shimmery, yellow archway erects before him.

As Emet-Selch enters through the archway he'll find himself in what appears to be an empty street. Walking down this street leads to a towering building with an archway covered in greenery. This area seems to be sort of like a covered patio, with several stores lining the inside of the tower, though all the names are blurred out. One sells clothing, another sells food, another sells tourist trinkets and novelty items. And in the middle of these stores is a giant planter filled with a vibrant splash of technicolor trees and bushes.

Sitting on this planter is Bass. They lift a static-y, melting hand.

"You made it! Come here, I've got something to show you."

And they hand Emet-Selch a laminated piece of paper. It looks kind of like a menu for a restaurant.

RULES 1. Dream something up! 2. Decide who you want to send a message and send them that Dream! 3. It has to be someone different each week, no repeats. Sorry! 4. Don't tell anybody. Seriously.

After reading the rules, Emet-Selch will find that an image becomes the home screen of his phone. He'll also feel something... sticky... appear on the back of his hand as a temporary tattoo of the same image appears. Only you can see the phone background and tattoo, and they both persist outside of this area.

Once the brand settles in, Bass tilts their head.

"Oh. That's probably fine? Anyway, I'm here to explain if you have questions!"

I suppose so, yes. Anything you wish to know of, or that you think I may have neglected to inform you of thus far.

[like he did with the other roles oops]

[he thinks about it.]

So, uh... you know more people now. I'm guessing it's the cat, the panda, and the horse? And one of them can heal refraction. But we still don't know anything about the pigs or where they come from. And we don't know what to do about stopping refraction from happening yet.

And you have your power now? Don't let me forget to upgrade your thing this week.

I do, yes-- and I shall remind you if necessary. I intend to save my sight for the weekend.

As for the dreams...

[he focuses. with that feeling of purpose and focus come elements of his transformation-- the silver crown, the multiple glowing white eyes.]

We do not. I recall theorizing before that it was a side effect of the ones we make, but I begin to wonder-- well. It does feel too on the nose to make another assumption I have in mind.

What I am curious of in particular is something Nogiku said. When she spoke of the dream I sent... she said she was only affected later in the week. Not the day following the dream. It is, to my knowledge, the only disruption in pattern with my dreams.

[well, you see, the thing about that is that flurry is a moron and put friday instead of tuesday because she was in a rush]

What assumption? [a pause.] Oh - I wouldn't worry about Nogiku. Sometimes things just don't happen the same way?

...hm. Well, if you insist.

[teej removes a pin from their conspiracy board]

The assumption that-- well. Others keep speaking of hearing messages from some entity calling themselves "Dreamer". As I said, it nearly feels too obvious to be accurate that this would be the source, but...

[all things need to be weighed regardless.

also, he's just curious how the mention will go over; he does trust bass the most, out of the residents, so if it's going to be any of them, of course emet will bring it up with him.

there's a second theory, but he'll give that one a minute.]

[well - there's a flinch, first off. the name seems to hit wrong, almost, and a shiver of static runs over his hands and face. it doesn't stick, but he definitely seems uncomfortable.]

... Dreamer, huh. [he fidgets.] That's pretty good logic. I don't know if it's true or not, but... that'd track, right?

Ahhhh, man. [he rubs at his arms.]

Bass--

[he's frowning, all of those eyes fixed on him.]

...it causes you discomfort to discuss?

[a little shrug.]

Not really. I'm okay. I just, um. The name sounds familiar, now.

Familiar in any particular way? Or simply-- a sense of familiarity.

Kinda like... I don't know if I know them personally? Maybe I did.

[...] They might've been here once.

I believe that theory has been brought up regarding them, before.

[hmm. he's considering, a moment.]

... have you any idea what may have happened, then?

[he shakes his head.]

No. [another wave of static.] They're not here anymore. So... so maybe something bad.

Maybe that's what I don't want to remember.

...that may be so.

[another pause.]

But would you be willing to try, regardless? We may all need to know what has come before, yourselves included.

[if emet is watching, he can see some of bass' hair turning grey in places.]

I can try... [he trails off. if anybody else had asked, he would've shied away, but. emet rarely asks him for anything.]

...Bass, your hair.

[that extra limb reaches out to touch one of those grey places. it's like, black and shiny, for the record, not a normal arm.]

Do not do so to your own detriment, but if you would make the attempt-- it may help.

Oh - sorry! Sorry. [hurriedly... he brings a hand up to touch his hair, though he does also let emet touch.]

... Okay. Can we talk about something else? [he's about to vibrate out of his skin.]

We may.

[that arm reflexively shifts? and it becomes a more winglike limb that sort of drapes around bass. a little protective.]

A different question, then, while I consider my dreams for the week. You said you had done something similar to creating these dreams before?

[his tail starts wagging again, very small. he leans into the winglike limb, closing his eyes.]

... Oh - yeah. I kinda remembered that. I could do this thing when I was dead? Or... I guess I am still dead. But I could do this thing where I could remind people of stuff they forgot. I'd send 'em images.

Was it common, then, for them to have forgotten things?

[that's-- a little troubling?]

It came up more than you'd think. [sometimes you have an ability that is a game mechanic]

...I see.

[that's still probably bad!]

Then I suppose they were lucky to have you and your ability.

Yeah, I guess so. I didn't do all that much, it was...

[a long pause.] Someone else did more work, I think.

But it is not as if you did none, Bass.

[congrats on being like the one person here who will get this from him]

[there's no emotion share this week, but it's very clear he appreciates this. wagging tail...]
