as she steps through the quartz arch, she will find herself standing in a traditional Japanese-style room - tatami mats on the floor, and sliding paper doors on every side. there are no windows, or even decorations on the walls. it's dim in here, lit only by low candles and shadows crawling out of every corner. it's very, very silent.
After she says something, the candles all flicker, and the silence is broken by the sound of ... slithering scales for a moment, and then one of the doors in front of Marie opens, seemingly by itself.]
It isn't haunted. There are no ghosts.
[This is rich when their voice is apparently totally sourceless.]
[through the archway she goes! right into a little apartment. it's a cozy place, a studio, with one bathroom and a small kitchen. clothes lay scattered all across the floor, in the type of way that they might when someone is too lazy to fold the stuff they're taking off. there are posters on the wall, though they're fuzzy and out of focus, and there's a tv and couch in the middle of the room. it's nice and warm in here.
there's color here, too, which might be important to note. the walls are white, but the posters are bright and eyecatching, and the various decorations across the room are rainbow in nature.
in the little kitchen, there's... a blob! a pixelated blob. it is small, about the size of a hedgehog, and is half hanging out of a cabinet, like it's trying to climb up into it. wassup.]
[ Thank you god it's nothing like Eito's scary ass room, but at the same time why does it seem so vacant?
Marie enters the apartment and just... looks at all the scattered clothes in disappointment. She would start picking it up and folding them herself if she wasn't focused on finding... la creature. ]
Um, excuse me? Is anyone home?
[ And to the kitchen she goes! To see the little blob! She blinks twice before she carefully moves over to help it into the cabinet??? ]
the blob wiggles itself into the cabinet with her help, and there's silence for just a moment before it pokes back out, seeming like it's looking at her. seeming, because it doesn't appear to have any facial features.]
Hey! Sup. [it waves a little stubby arm.] Thanks for the assist!
[once she goes looking for the jade archway, it will appear before her. stepping through feels like stepping into a soothing landscape painting. the atmosphere goes grey, but rather than the monochrome of other areas, it's the mist of morning fog, still hanging low in the air. her feet touch down onto dirt and grass. she is standing in a quaint country garden. there are tall, dark green trees all around and rolling hills far away, but in the immediate vicinity is a flat, empty area with a few fenced in garden patches. the fenced in area in front looks to be a tidy herb and vegetable garden patch. there's a small shed towards the back of the garden, and gardening tools are scattered about.
in the distance she can see a pond and across the pond, far away, a small cottage with smoke billowing from the chimney. there are a few stone statues scattered about the garden, but after a moment, you notice that one of them in particular is pacing back and forth, talking to the plants. it glances up.]
I'm sorry that sounds rough I don't know where you are though so I don't know that I can help By the way what should I be calling you right now, is Marie right?
[they start with text and then you gotta ask and be invited! but shale would invite her so we can assume she texts and they open a portal beneath her feet. whoosh!
marie will find herself inside a cottage that is very old-fashioned, fairly small and extremely cluttered. everything is made of wood and appears handmade and old, like something sturdy that has stood the test of time, but is a little lovingly worn. the only lighting in here is the gentle glow of candles, the fire in the hearth, and a lantern set out on the table, but there are cozy looking rounded windows with cheerful shutters that let in a crack of light and allow a peek out into the misty green garden space outside.
the particular room she arrives in looks like an eating area. there's a simple round wooden table and seven mismatched wooden chairs clustered around it, with seven place settings. (two additional chairs are in the corner near the hearth in case they come to be needed). a vase containing fresh cut lilies and painted with little butterflies and beetles sits in the middle of the table. in the corner, there's a small hearth fireplace giving off warmth, while a pot of something sits on the fire. it smells like something delicious is cooking. she can see a doorway that might lead into something like an old-fashioned kitchen.
despite these cozy vibes, there's something desperately cluttered but also impersonal about the place. the entire cottage she can make out is a little dusty. there are some places where there are cracks in the floor and walls and little plants or an assortment of mushrooms are poking through. a beetle (jewel green) skitters here and there. there are old teacups left out in random places, with rings of tea still in the bottom of them, and stacks of various items like bowls, containers of dried herbs, and gardening tools just left out haphazardly, gathering dust, forgotten. it altogether has the feeling of a place no one has actually lived in for a very long time, or a place that was one full of people and abruptly abandoned. the only indication it hasn't been abandoned are the large footprints occasionally tracked through the dust, mostly moving between the hearth and the hallway, as well as the fact that the food cooking clearly hasn't spoiled and the lilies on the table are fresh.
the walls are covered with shelves containing cute, handmade looking knick knacks and plateware. the plateware - cups, dishes, bowls, utensils, kettles - is all a mismatch of various cute colors and patterns, but no piece seems to go with any other piece. a lot of them are chipped or cracked. the knick knacks include wooden, painted figurines of an azure dragon curled around itself, a graceful little rose colored fox baring its teeth, a playful golden shiba inu, a mouse in a school uniform, a crow with its feathers puffed up, a cautious orange weasel, a lizard in a baseball cap, a cute little bluebird, a noble looking german shepherd, and an egyptian-style falcon, but there's actually a lot of space on the shelf for more figurines, and impressions in the dust that many more suck knick knacks once existed there. on the walls there are many hoops and frames that one would expect might contain things like embroidery or art projects or pictures of loved ones. instead, they all depict various species of butterfly, sometimes in embroidery, sometimes in paint, and sometimes just as a sketch.]
[they don't seem annoyed by this, just a little faintly sheepishly embarrassed.]
I haven't been using this place much for a while. But it's convenient for seeing all of you.
[by the way...marie will find she is a ghost! she is faintly translucent. she can still feel things physically, touch them, move them, but the feeling is a bit distant and it takes a little bit of effort.]
Someone has been helping me a little with my communication style, and I'd like to try something. Could you possibly tell them "I don't like you and you should shut up" for me?
Oh, I don't really care if they do that. I mean I'm not against it I just don't have any real opinion on it one way or the other. It doesn't seem like any of my business.
It's alright. This was a hard week for a lot of people. We lost some, some are very down, I got most of my memories back, I worry people won't practice proper safety with the dinosaurs?

U-Um… [ She’s inching further into the room, one hand reaching out into the darkness. ] Eito-san? Are you here?
I-I’m not very good with haunted houses, so say something? Please? I will cry.
