Simulation room. C'mon.
[ when bass comes to the simulation room this fine day, he gets to see...
a castle! it's a huge castle, carved into the edges of a gigantic mountain. he will find himself standing on the very precipice of the castle, on a thin pathway that led up to the top of a tower, and down below is what looks like a great, big, fall. the weather here is brisk and cold, the wind whistling through a winter's afternoon, and snowflakes drift downwards in big, fat circles, creating fluffy piles of snow on the cool, white stones that make up the castle. it's the complete fucking opposite of that big huge city he got to step into when he went through bass's archway.
vax is sitting on the wall, dressed in his deathwalkers ward, again - though, it's illusory. he sticks out like a sore thumb here, because he is dressed in all black - then again, he's not trying to be sneaky. ]
Bass.

don't jump off of the cliff in fright please ]

[ oh, pretty. vax likes gardens and green places, naturally - and he's not really expecting to see steel inside anyway - so he makes his way around to explore.
... it feels nice out here. his emotional vibes are content, at first, though there's a little ! when he sees steel, and he comes over with his hands in his pockets. ]
Making more renovations, huh? Hey, Steel.

and he will do just that! no response as usual, but. vax comes by late in the evening - his emotions are generally tired and melancholy, but he's not nearly as much of a wreck as he was last week, all things considered.
he's long stopped trying to snoop around shale's place, so he just announces his presence, calling out - ] Cad?

[has he even been in here yet anyway here's your bass archway description:
when you enter, there's a park. it's clearly in the middle of a fast moving city, the tall buildings with neon signs flashing in the distance. the placement of this apartment doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but there's a tall building right in the middle of a colorful assortment of flowers lining the pathway up to it. the door is bright yellow, and the area itself is constantly at dawn, the sun rising over the tops of the skyscrapers.
when you walk in, it's an apartment still, but it's much bigger, now. there's a nicely sized living room, with a seating area built into the floor. there are various pillows and cushions all over this seating area, making it super cozy. in front of this area is a large tv cabinet, with a big tv, and several game consoles. a karaoke machine sits on the floor next to the cabinet. the walls are painted like a sunrise between the floor-length windows that show off a stunning view of the city around them, and the various posters and framed pictures of cute pokemon and various manga or anime protagonists. against one of the walls is a large aquarium decorated like a sunken pirate ship, with one huge goldfish in it.
there's a little kitchen off to the side, with a toaster oven and microwave, as cramped as ever. a bathroom also exists. there's also a loft, but you can't see what's up there unless you ask. you can probably hear the various arcade noises going on up there, though.
bass is in the kitchen, fiddling with the microwave. wassup.
is riff here? idk. maybe he will be eventually or maybe it'll just be bass and you have to suffer my tags.]

[me desperately scrolling to see if vax really hasn't been here since w3.
anyway. vax enters the archway and lands right in the middle of what looks like a city. it actually looks similar to the city what looks like a city. actually, he'll recognize it as something like the city in bass's old archway, though when he looks up at a tall building with blurred neon numbers on it he'll see a staircase with a blue door at the top.
through the door, he'll see it's still an apartment. his new place is still an apartment, but now there's multiple rooms. there are doors for a bedroom and a bathroom, though peering into the bedroom itself there seems to be a large kind of jungle theme going on there with some fake greenery, a little pond, a cat tree, food bowls, etc. tora the tiger is also hanging out in that room. there’s another room, but…the door is soot-sprite sized. there is no other door just yet which means this door remains closed. there’s also a door for a coat closet, a bathroom, and a laundry room. to the left of the door is the kitchen with standard appliances.
in the main room itself there’s a large blue pull-out couch that’s been piled with a few blankets and pillows, likely where riff slept last night. the walls are framed with vinyl records, posters of bands, games, and things he might like, and the wall directly across from the entrance by the window and his desk is a chalkboard wall. there are a few things written on it, mostly lyrics or little doodles, but he’ll see one drawing with a phrase scrawled next to it: it’s always the darkest under the lighthouse. close by, there's we see you and elsewhere there's a few ocean waves drawn in different chalk with the words: feeling, deep inside your ocean, searching for the air to breathe, fear is nothing but an illusion, lead your own way and believe it. elsewhere, there's what looks like the crosswalk from outside, five different sections, and the words: don't let your head get to your heart
there’s a tv hooked up with a projector and with his game systems, and extra seating in the form of a couch. there’s also the desk with his computer and a few little knickknacks on it, including the golden shiba, the green elk and the pink fox on a shelf above the desk right in eyesight. there aren’t as many clocks, but there are a few things on the wall as mentioned, including the marine clown portrait and a few artsy pieces. there are also a few sound panels on the wall, his blue electric guitar on a stand and propped in the corner.
as for riff himself he's curled up on the pull-out couch with his coat around him and his hood pulled up, thumbing through notifications on his phone. hello vax.]

anyway here's a vax, coming into his nice new place! he doesn't really snoop around as much as he would normally - maybe on a day not like today - and instead comes over to the pullout couch and just sits down. he's holding something? two somethings, actually - carefully balanced mugs of hot chocolate. ]

[ well, it's a relief to see bass, at least, so. here comes vax, sneaking a little bit, and then coming up and just swiping a bit of melted ice cream off of the side of his bowl and sticking it into his mouth. ]

[shibuya has stopped raining at least. it's mostly overcast.
riff, however, is laying facedown on the floor. tora is currently on him and pinning him down.
it's probably fine. vax may also notice that there are more doodles on his chalkboard wall, and the marine family portrait has moved to a different place on the wall.

[ oh buddy
vax upon entering does not try to hide his entrance here, at least. he comes over, sympathetic, and squats down on the ground, glancing up briefly at these doodles and the moved portrait (!!) before coming to a stop in front of him and tora.
he reaches his hand out for tora, too, to give him a scritch. ]
That bad?

[ because i don't think he's been here since house reveal: It's still a very traditional-looking Japanese-style home, but it's much brighter in here now. The weather outside is stormy, rain breaks the surface of the koi pond and wind runs through the branches of the sakura tree, but in a way where it's cozy inside here, where the air smells like a storm passing by. It's lit mostly by low candles and shadow lanterns, and shoji doors have closed off the main room, but a few of them are cracked open to show that there are rooms beyond just this one, filled with actual things. The sword is still on the wall in here, restored to its place.
Steel is sitting on the porch, watching the weather. It isn't stormy, but it's that sort of weather right after rain, where it's still a bit cloudy, but sunlight is starting to peek through. ]
Yes?

...Hey, Steel. Wanted to check on you. And... I owe you an apology, too.

[written on high quality paper with high quality ink and left for Vax somewhere. we're doing this old school.]
Vax,
Thank you for the letter. I get tired of texting, too. Too small. Pen is nice.
I'm glad our paths crossed as well. Some things are simply meant to be. I'm grateful you were able to remind me of some of what I've lost, remind me a little of home. Going back to it is going to be a big change, but I'm less worried, knowing a little more about what to expect. I owe a lot of that to you. You're doing a good job for her already, you know.
I have to tell you I run into a lot of birds and I'm worried if I just assume all birds I meet are you it's going to get confusing and cause a lot of awkward situations. But I hope that's not going to deter you from saying hello. I run into a lot of dead people, too. A lot of weird stuff happens to me. So stranger things have happened, and even if they don't, someday I'll die.
I'll make sure to look your friends up if I ever get the chance. As far as I know, I've only ever met a handful of people from the same part of the world as you, so it's pretty unlikely any of them would know about Vox Machina. Come to think of it, maybe one of them...druid lady, could be from the same place you talked about before? I think her name was Vilya. But who knows. The world is big, and weird, and full of so many different people.
I hope you'll say some of your goodbyes face to face, Vax. In my line of work, I've learned that closure is important, and words in a letter or spoken to a grave are one kind but they aren't much of a substitute for looking somebody in the eyes.
But I'm comfortable letting you go for now, if that's what you prefer.
Your friend,
Caduceus Clay
